Starter House
Los Angeles | CA
This project transforms a compact, steeply sloped site into a minimal live/work dwelling by building upon the strong organizational diagram of the existing house and the location of its structural steel frame. Through careful analysis of the site’s constraints, the design addresses both functional and spatial needs, including the strategic placement of an interior stair to a ground floor addition that replaces two parking spaces. The upper level of the home is wrapped with a series of outdoor rooms, creating a seamless extension of the interior spaces. This reworking strengthens the connection between indoors and outdoors, opening up the interior, increasing natural light, ventilation, and maximizing views. The result is a thoughtfully designed dwelling that balances functionality with a sense of openness and integration with its surroundings.
