This project uses an addition to transform an inward-facing home into a loft-like treehouse engaged with the sun, with views to surrounding ridges and with its dramatically steep and oak woodland site. The addition for the studio/print-shop for a graphic designer and her offset printing press lives on the ground level and opens toward an intimate carved-in patio. The new great room, now one with the kitchen/dining space lives atop the studio, among the live oak tree-tops. The challenge - which became the design inspiration - was that the shape of the remaining buildable land suggested that both these stacked spaces could culminate in a dramatic glass corner aka the point.
