LARK THEATER
Larkspur | CA
As the architectural stewards of The Lark, a beloved single-screen movie theater in Larkspur, our mission has been to preserve and enhance this iconic venue, which serves as a non-profit community hub for film, live performances, and cultural events. Our focus has been on maintaining the theater's historic Art Deco exterior while updating its interior and systems to meet contemporary needs.
We have reimagined key spaces, including the lobby, box office, concessions area, and restrooms, while modernizing the auditorium to create a more immersive experience. Additionally, we designed a front terrace to enhance the building's curb appeal and foster greater community engagement. This work has been recognized with the 2005 Art Deco Society of California Preservation Award and the 2010 City of Larkspur Historic Preservation Award.
In line with sustainability goals, we implemented state-of-the-art projection, stage lighting, and sound systems, upgraded the HVAC and electrical infrastructure, eliminated natural gas usage, and installed photovoltaic solar panels. Recently featured in Marin Magazine, this project honors the theater's legacy while securing its vitality for future generations.
