BEYOND THE TETONS

Alta | WY

This project’s design responds thoughtfully to the site's topography, landscape vegetation, and climate, creating a retreat that blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Parallel concrete walls follow the land’s contours, while zinc-clad roof plates rise from the sloping plains and fold to shape the living spaces below. Long, obliquely cut eaves provide shelter from the extreme sun and snow, while framing breathtaking views of the Grand Teton mountain range and Wyoming’s vast landscapes. Located near the crest of a hill, close to a vibrant creek, the group of buildings is carefully oriented to minimize their visual impact on the land while optimizing solar exposure. By working with the grain of the land, the design enhances the connection to the surrounding natural beauty, offering an immersive experience of the stunning mountain and landscape views. Designed to serve as a multi-generational home, this project creates a harmonious retreat for three generations of a family to live on the land. In addition to the main residence, an accompanying house on the property offers further space for family members, ensuring a cohesive yet private living experience.
